The importance of editing

The most detailed level of editing, focusing on inconsistencies in spelling, style, layout, and typography. For this stage, it's best to provide a style sheet for any special styles, words, or phrases that are used.

Proofreading

Focuses on improving the clarity of the manuscript. Spelling, grammar, repetition, dialogue tags, POV, verb tense, and descriptive inconsistencies are all considered at this stage.

Copy Editing

More detailed feedback, including inconsistencies and other big-picture issues. You'll receive your manuscript with annotations and an editorial report summarizing the feedback.

Developmental Editing

Broad feedback on the plot, characters, and structure. These are typically sent in the form of a letter. An editorial assessment is suitable if you're in the early stages of editing.
